Veteran WR Abdul Janneh enters the transfer portal
Georgia Tech loses a veteran option in the wide receiver room
Georgia Tech saw a veteran wideout enter the portal on Thursday, as Abdul Janneh is set to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
This past season, the veteran tallied 105 yards on seven catches while seeing action in all 13 contests.
During his first season in Atlanta, Janneh appeared in 12 of 13 games and caught six passes for 122 yards. He led the team with 20.3 yards per reception and was tied for fourth on the team with two touchdown receptions.
What is the transfer portal?
The NCAA student-athlete transfer portal launched in 2018. It marked a change from when student-athletes had to get a release from one school to transfer to another and could be limited to where they transferred. The portal allows student-athletes to simply notify their current school and its compliance department that they intend to move on to another program. Entering the transfer portal does not mean a prospect has to transfer, it just means they can be recruited by other programs and take visits.
The window for undergraduate players to enter runs from Dec. 9 through Dec. 28. But those dates could be different for some—any player on a team who has a coach fired or leaves has a 30-day window to enter the transfer porta.
The spring window in April will remain, as the portal will only be 10 days long. The timeframe will last from April 16, 2025, to April 25, 2025, when it will shut down.
The inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff will extend the postseason. After the portal closes in January, players on teams that will compete in the College Football Playoff and later bowl games will be allowed to enter an additional five-day transfer portal window.
