Recruiting Q&A: Will Cooley
Headed to Titletown, former Troup Tiger will take fond memories and strong work ethic to Valdosta State
With a crazy start to 2020 high school football players were preparing for their upcoming season with offseason workouts, practice, and recruiting. Will Cooley, Center for Troup County, was no different. With his senior class transitioning into college, Cooley had to step up and be a leader that the young Tigers needed. Will was apart of one of the biggest turn arounds in school history this past year from a 0-3 start to go on and win six straight. The Crowded Booth wanted to speak with Will on how recruiting went this past year and why he decided to join The Blazers of Valdosta State.
What drew you to Valdosta State? What led you to make the decision?
“Recruiting was crazy, we had a ton of schools come and visit us at Troup. Once covid hit it was kind of hard meeting with coaches, I started to send film out and visit as many colleges all over the southeast. Valdosta State felt like home to me, it feels like a machine there.”
What have coaches been saying to you about your possible part in the fall?
“They already want me to put on 20 pounds to help make myself as ready as possible. I have a twelve week workout plan that was sent to me to help prepare to make an impact as soon as I step on campus. I have been talking with coaches there via zoom.”
How did coach Glisson and the rest of your coaches at Troup help you develop over the last four years?
“I have had a ton of great coaches over the years and Coach Glisson has been my guy ever since he came and met with me in eighth grade. He taught me how to be a man on and off the field, he has always been another father figure to me.”
We wanted to know if Will had a memory/game that he will always remember from his four years at Troup?
“Well the game against Lagrange this past year was one to remember. After the city lost Trae it felt like everyone came together that night and being a captain and walking out to the coin toss was something magical.”
We asked how Will felt about being able to play at the next level.
“I am super fortunate, its super humbling to be able to have a chance to compete with the best. It’s just a tribute to everyone who helped and believed in me along the way.”
