Georgia Tech's Ricky Brumfield drawing interest for an NFL job
247Sports' Matt Zenitz mentioned the Jackets' special teams coach as an option for the NFL
247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Tuesday afternoon, that Georgia Tech special teams coach Ricky Brumfield was set to interview for the LA Rams assistant special teams coach job.
Led by Brumfield, the Yellow Jackets special teams experienced a resurgence of sorts after some up and down years. Georgia Tech had a Freshman All-American kicker in Aiden Birr this year and ranked third nationally in blocked kicks. Brumfield also assumed a prominent role within the defensive backfield this past season and is set to be the cornerbacks coach along with new secondary coach Cory Peoples for the 2024 season.
While there doesn’t seem to be much movement on whether Brumfield would actually take the job or not, an interview for an NFL job or any job is a good sign for both the coach and the program. When the interviews stop coming for a coach or staff member, it means that his or her star might not be as bright as it once was. As for the program, it is an indictment on the way that Brent Key has changed the perception and narrative around the Georgia Tech program over the past year and a half. This is a good sign for a program that needs to begin its climb to the top of college football.
