Georgia Tech set to host transfer OL Will Reed
The Jackets are looking to shore up their offensive front with an Ivy League transfer
Georgia Tech is still looking to bolster its offensive line, as 247Sports reports that the Jackets are set to host former Princeton offensive lineman Will Reed this week.
Reed has a trip to Georgia Tech set for Wednesday and Thursday. He is also set to return west with a visit to Arizona State in mid-January, most likely next week. ‌ Arizona hosted Reed for an official visit in December while he traveled to Virginia last weekend.
Since Reed graduates from Princeton in May, he won't enroll until after graduation. The plan is to enroll later in May, giving some time to make a decision. Earlier this week, UNLV offered him. Nebraska and West Virginia are the latest schools to be in communication, per 247Sports.
Reed graded out at a 58.8 in pass blocking, per PFF.
What is the transfer portal?
The NCAA student-athlete transfer portal launched in 2018. It marked a change from when student-athletes had to get a release from one school to transfer to another and could be limited to where they transferred. The portal allows student-athletes to simply notify their current school and its compliance department that they intend to move on to another program. Entering the transfer portal does not mean a prospect has to transfer, it just means they can be recruited by other programs and take visits.
The window for undergraduate players to enter runs from Dec. 9 through Dec. 28. But those dates could be different for some—any player on a team who has a coach fired or leaves has a 30-day window to enter the transfer porta.
The spring window in April will remain, as the portal will only be 10 days long. The timeframe will last from April 16, 2025, to April 25, 2025, when it will shut down.
