Georgia Tech reserve QB Zach Pyron to enter the transfer portal
The Alabama-native enters after graduating with his Georgia Tech degree.
In what had become an expected move, Georgia Tech reserve quarterback Zach Pyron announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.
Pyron made a huge splash as a true freshman despite appearing in just three games and making two starts. He amassed 692 yards of total offense (565 passing, 127 rushing) and five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) in just three games. He completed 49-of-82 passes, good for a team-best .598 completion percentage. Pyron came off the bench to make his collegiate debut at Florida State (Oct. 29), completing 18-of-28 passes for 198 yards without an interception and accounted for two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
The Alabama-native will have two years remaining and after graduating from Georgia Tech.
What is the transfer portal?
The NCAA student-athlete transfer portal launched in 2018. It marked a change from when student-athletes had to get a release from one school to transfer to another and they could be limited as to where they transferred. The portal allows student-athletes to simply notify their current school and its compliance department that they intend to move on to another program. Entering the transfer portal does not mean a prospect has to transfer, it just means they can be recruited by other programs and take visits.
