Andrew Alford is looking to make a name for himself in a new place
The newest Central Red Devil looking to make an impact in year one
Central-Phenix City (AL) enters this season with another loaded roster, however the Red Devils could be inserting a brand new-quarterback under center. 2025 quarterback Andrew Alford made the choice to transfer from Brookstone (GA) this spring and make the jump across the river. It was one that was met with a tough discussion to leave friends, but with an eye towards the future.
“It was a very tough decision to leave a great place like Brookstone behind ,but ultimately Central is the best program in the area,” Alford told The Crowded Booth. “They have been consistently putting kids out to the next level and that is where I want to be. I feel like Central is the best chance for that to happen.”
The move has already paid off in the amount of attention received. Alford’s phone has been buzzing with college coaches showing that initial interest It’s something that Alford excited and knowing he made the right decision to transfer.
“A lot of coaches that I would not think know who I am are asking about me and that was kinda a shock to me,” Alford said. “But its also just the culture of Central and the reputation that if you are here, then you’re expected to be very good at what you do.”
Alford enters the perfect situation for a young quarterback. As a junior, he will have the opportunity to be surrounded by dynamic weapons and play the role of a point guard and letting those highly-rated athletes go to work. It gives Alford a chance to shine while setting his teammates up for success. It makes his job of playing quarterback at one of the best programs in the state of Alabama just a tad bit easier.
“Its a blessing to play with my teammates and the talent level is just through the roof. They make me look good all the time,” Alford joked. “It’s a great group and we all have very good relationships and the same dreams and aspirations. Being here has really sped up my decision making and quicker with my reads and pre-snap recognition. The game is very fast and everything has to be on time and to the right person.”
As the season nears, Central figures to be one of the favorites to take home a state title. That’s been the focus of this group as they have worked through the summer and into fall camp. Alford has the big goal in mind with some personal ones added in.
“Some goals I have for myself is to just be a leader of this team and go get a ring,” Alford said. “I would hope to have somewhere around 3,000 yards passing and 30 touchdowns, but the ultimate goal is to be a leader and win a ring.”
