After impressive sophomore season, Bryson Riggins plans big offseason
Riggins plans to show college coaches even more
For Russell County (AL) quarterback Bryson Riggins the 2023 season was chance to prove both on and off the field that he was the guy to help lead their program back to relevancy in the Alabama high school ranks. While it wasn’t the year that Riggins and his teammates wanted, the Warriors learned a lot about the bright future of their team.
“I put in a lot of hard work in the offseason. There were very long hours in and out of film room sessions, weight room, team and individual field work. I also transferred to a new school and system so I had to learn that as well as train hard. I grew in a lot of areas this season. I took over the starting job after 1 1/2 games. I became a more vocal leader and gained a ton of confidence on the field after my first varsity snap. That was an awesome feeling. “
When Riggins wasn’t performing on the field, he was busy visiting college campuses. This allowed for the young quarterback to get a feel for the recruiting process, but most importantly continue to get his name out there as one of the more productive quarterbacks in the state of Alabama. Riggins was also able to get some good feedback form evaluators at the next level
“I have been to camps and visits on various campuses and each campus had their own unique feel to it. I could see myself leading each program as their starting quarterback in the next few years,” Riggins said. “Most of the feedback I have received is just to keep working and grinding to be the best version of me on and off the field and the rewards and offers will come.”
In just eight and a half games played, Riggins tallied 2,067 yards and twenty-five touchdowns. However, the work doesn’t stop there. The sophomore plans to use this offseason to improve and get better for what he expects to be a big junior season.
“My off-season plans are mainly to work on my physical attributes as well as my play on the field. I will watch game film of myself and just see what can I add to my game to make me more effective for my team,” Riggins said. “I just know that to get where we want to get, I have to be better.”
The drive to be better not only for himself but for his team shows just how dedicated Riggins is to improving the play and brand of Russell County football.
