2027 DB Romel Koon Jr reacts to Georgia Tech offer
The Brentwood Academy (TN) stand out talks about his offer and conversation with the Jackets' staff
Georgia Tech is beginning to work on its 2027 class as July rolls around. That being said, the staff has been busy at work extending offers to recruits they have kept an eye on.
Enter in 2027 cornerback and Brentwood Academy (TN) standout Romel Koon Jr. The six-foot, 165-pound defensive back added the offer from the Jackets after a conversation with Georgia Tech’s Kobie Jones.
“I'm definitely feeling blessed and grateful. At Georgia Tech, I had a great time during my visit, and it was truly amazing. I was just thinking about having this offer. I promised I was thinking about having this offer, but it's definitely amazing to pick it up,” Koon told The Crowded Booth. “It was a great conversation. He would like to build a better relationship with me this season. He just told me to stay connected with him and not leave him hanging, basically.”
Along with Kobie Jones, other coaches are complimentary of Koon’s game, his ability to utilize his length as a strength has been something that has stood out during the camp season. Taking a look at his film, there was a real reason to why the Jackets wanted to offer him.
“Coaches like how I look at the ball, my approach to the game. From what I've been posting, Coach Jones said he liked how I grind and how I love the game.” As for my strengths, my man coverage is pretty good and I'm able to read the QB and attack the ball in the air.”
The talented defensive back already has an impressive offer sheet that includes Florida State, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Vanderbilt. He’s used some impressive camp showings this summer to pick up several offers.
While he’s still a ways off from making a decision, Koon’s recruitment is starting to gain more traction. With that in mind, the young defensive back has already outlined some things he needs to see before making a decision.
"I'm looking for great coaches around the players, and how they're going to help me develop over the next few years,” Koon said in an interview. “And if I decide to commit to GT, am I going to get better as a person, not just on the field and off the field? I’m just looking to win.”
